with a view to his taking shares in a syndicate for prepar-

Your Lordship in your telegram of
31st. January last informed me that very careful considera-
-tion must be given to the bearing of such a tunnel on the
Defence Scheme, and in this connection I have the honour to
enclose correspondence between the General Officer Cormand-
-ing and myself. I would suggest that if Your Lordship
considers it advisable to do so the opinion of the Defence
Committee should be asked on the subject.
